What You Will Learn in Making Sense of Eating

Module 1 | Getting Started

Meet Dr. Sam Goldman as she teaches you how to introduce mealtime strategies WITHOUT overwhelming your child and your family.

Module 2 | What is Sensory Processing?

Dr. Sam will teach you about what is going on inside your child's brain and body by introducing the sensory relationships between the child, the environment, and the food.

Module 3 | Sensory Processing Difficulties

Identify and map out your child's type and subtype of sensory processing so you can use it to create a unique mealtime strategy that will set the up for success at the dinner table.

Module 4 | Sensory & Eating

It's time to view mealtime from your child's point of view. Learn how to end mealtime battles by identifying when they are in fight or flight, and how to address it peacefully at the table.

Module 5 | I Spy With My Little Eye (The Visual System)

Did you know that the presentation, color, and shapes of food can cause your child to refuse trying a new food? In this module, you will start building your sensory toolbox to visually support your child at the table.

Module 6 | Touchy-Feely Things (The Tactile System)

Textures and temperatures are challenging for kids with sensory processing difficulties. Learn how to address the way things feel in their mouth and hands, as well as the real reason why they have "beef" with mac and cheese and pizza.

Module 7 | Hear Ye, Hear Ye! (The Auditory System)

Clanking silverware, chewing noises, smacking lips, scraping chairs - all of these common dinner table noises can affect your child's eating experience. This module will cover your child's auditory response during mealtimes and how to address it peacefully.

Module 8 | Yuck to Yum (The Gustatory System)

Did you know that there are only five different types of tastes? Learn which ones work in harmony with your child's body and mind, and how to incorporate them into your family's mealtime.

Module 9 | Smell You Later, Alligator! (The Olfactory System)

Whether they be "yummy" or "stinky," smells are unavoidable during mealtimes, and your child may react to them in ways that are confusing to you. This module will introduce you to your child's olfactory system, and ways you can use it to create a positive food experience!

Module 10 | Movin' and Groovin' (The Vestibular System)

Does your child struggle with sitting still during mealtime? The vestibular system may be the culprit for this, and this module will teach you how to respond appropriately when your child tries to make a run for it at the sight of peas and carrots!

Module 11 | Body Awareness (The Proprioceptive System)

Believe it or not, body awareness has a lot to do with your child's eating struggles. Learn about why your food explorer is always bumping into things, leaning on the table, and hugging you too tight.

Module 12 | Body Signals (The Interoceptive System)

Learn how to teach your child to identify and honor the signals their body is sending them (hunger, fullness, nausea), as well as the big emotions they are feeling around food.

Module 13 | Putting it All Together

Now the fun begins! This module will teach you how to look at the big picture and apply what you have learned during mealtimes. Congratulations, you now know how to Make Sense of Eating!

What Parents Are Saying...

"The explanation and education for sensory processing is bar none. I haven't seen anyone else break it down the way you did. So that was pretty impressive."

Hi! I'm Dr. Sam,

Hi! I’m Sam (or as my client’s know me “Dr. Sam) and this is my rescue
dog Wolfie ๐Ÿถ.

I’m on a mission to bring the magic back into mealtime by
teaching parents how to help their children with feeding difficulties
explore and try new foods without the mealtime battles.

I’ve spent the last 9 years working as an occupational therapist in the
hospital system helping families improve their child’s development and eating. Throughout my time as an occupational therapist I’ve worked with countless families in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), pediatric care unit (PICU), and cardiac intensive care unit (CICU), as well as in outpatient clinics.

The more I worked with the children, the more I began to notice that parents weren’t getting the education they needed. While the children
were doing great in therapy sessions, parents struggled to carryover
the techniques at home – because they didn’t really understand what
they were doing and why.

I know how frustrating it can be to worry that you’re not doing the right thing for your child. So I’ve taken what I’ve learned about feeding
difficulties and the sensory system and packaged it into an online
educational course for parents, to empower you with the tools you
need to overcome mealtime battles.

Sincerely,
Dr Sam (and Wolfie ๐Ÿถ)
